BOPELS BLURB - OCTOBER 2009

Breakfast

Last Friday morning 17 of us had breakfast together at a local cafe. We ate a full Enlgish breakfast - bacon and eggs, baked beans, toast followed by a good cup of coffee. It was a very good chance to practise conversational English in an informal setting.

Tomorrow, Wednesday the General English students are visiting Mc Laren's Falls Park with Katrina and Suzanne. Katrina leaves us next week to go to Tonga for Missionary work and after that trip she and her husband are going to Perth to the YWAM Base there. We wish her all the very best. It has been great having her in the school.

We will have an article and photos on this once the students return.

Bopels Blurb - September 2009

Happenings at BOPELS

It has been a lot of fun over the last two or three weeks with a number of activities taking place. We have visited a farm in the Waikato, had a pizza and movie evening, a scavenger hunt around Tauranga, a visit to the Art Gallery, an upcoming visit to Mc Laren's Falls and a school breakfast (full English of course!) this coming Friday.
Our IELTS class is going well with students from Thailand, China, Switzerland, Chile, Germany, French and Saudi Arabia. With all those nationalities it makes for interesting discussions and conversations. This class will finish in November and our next IELTS class is scheduled to start in March 2010.
Our monthly newsletter the BOPELS BLURB is coming out this week and it will be posted on the Blog for you all to read.

My kiwi experience by Matthieu

Few days after my landing in NZ was my first day to the BOPELS school ! firstly I had to fill in an exam to determine my level in english (completly failed for me :-( ) ; but I was selected in upper intermediate anyway : a very friendly class gathering Saoudians, Chineeses, Japaneeses, Frenches, Tawaineeses and one korean ! You can guess that the accents was various !! :-)
Unfortunatly, upper intermediate was too difficult for me and I asked to change for the intermediate class.
My new class was pretty identical for the nationalities but much more easy for the level of english language

Well, that allowed me to have friends in the two class ! :-)


A special thought for Meshal (Saoudian) with whom I laugh a lot (my teacher said to me after, that the class was much more quiet after my leaving... :-) )

Hi, I'm Meshal from Saudi Arabia. I'm 21 years old and I am at University studying Computer Science. I'm in NZ on holiday learning English at BOPELS. I spent the best time of my life in this school. I got what I came to get. When I return to Saudi I'll continue my University and I'll try to speak English in some shops such as restaurants etc.
Finally, I enjoyed this school and I wish to come back again next year.

How to become an adventurer

Near Tauranga (Bethleem) there is an "adventure park" named Waimario.
It's cool ! there are lot of possibilities to have fun activities (essentialy around the river and lake) like an attractions park
But there are also canoeing day or night :-)

Get a card at the Library

It's easy an very useful to ask an acces card to the library of Tauranga !
There are lot of choice of books, movies, newspaper, music CD...
And that's free or cheap :-)

How to do ?
Just go to the library (91 Willow street -very close to the school-) and ask to the employee seat behind the desk front of the entry.
Don't forget your passport and have an adress in Tauranga (phone number is welcome) (Jocelyn can write a proof of your local adress). the fees are very attractives (cheap) :-)
And that's all ! few minutes after you can borrow your first book !!

About Tauranga

One of the most important city of New Zealand, Tauranga is a nice town of sea shore.

We take advantage of many service provided by government and private industries which found a population of most of one hundred and thirty thousand soul.
But the nature is very close of us too :-) and it's easy to go out of the city and in 5 minutes being either in the middle of the green forest or the smooth slopes of mountains.

First Attempt

Hello :-)

we are saturday and we are in the middle of th winter season. June was quite cold and end of july looks less cold but wetter !
Fortunatly here the weather change very quickly and contrarily to Europe (West Europe), here we can have a nice sunny afternoon after one entire morning of rain. :-)

Today will be more "cosy home with a DVD" than tramping (hiking) but as sunday must be sunny (according forecast) we planned to tramping all day in the Kamai range.
